A claim on my credit report showed up as opened 6/1/2011 by Fidelity Creditor Svc, a collection agency representing Century City Hospital. They have payment status listed as Seriously Past due and turned over to collection agency and also Claiming an amount of $208,700.00. I have contacted them and let them know that I have no knowledge of this account. They are claiming that it is from surgery July of 2008. I let them know that over the past 3 years I have had no correspondence, billing or phone calls from either them or Century City Hospital. I did have surgery in July 2008 for PPO insurance covered procedures. I have contacted my insurance company and they have no claims submissions from Century City Hospital for July 2008, which seems odd because Fidelity claims that they received $167,000 from insurance for this, and the balance is
$208,700.00. Neither Fidelity nor Century City Hospital has provided me with any paperwork, itemized billing or proof of charges. As this is a collection agency, I don't know what information that they are privileage to and what is none of their business. I have contacted all 3 credit bureaus and disputed this and written the Attorney General and Federal Trade Commission. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

If you’re interested, I’ve been doing some digging regarding Fidelity Creditor Services with regard to the Century City fiasco. There are about a half a dozen people with a similar story to yours, and mine is the same as most. (Had service, was told it was covered, never heard anything for years, and then saw a ding on my credit report). Fidelity also claimed to have sent me notice in June – again, never happened. Fact of the matter is, this agency is attempting to collect for services that were never billed and, in some cases, never even took place. I am likely taking them to court, and am definitely reporting them to the attorney general’s office for an investigation, so if anyone wants in, let me know. The more the merrier. Of note, for those of you who had services beyond two years ago, you should know that the statute of limitations has probably run and Fidelity is knowingly attempting to collect a debt that they don’t have a legal right to. In California the statute of limitations for an implied contract (what most medical treatment falls under) is two years. They reported you first and sought payment later so that they’d have some leverage when negotiating on these false claims.

I too have the same situation for some purported service at Century City Hospital in 6/07. No bill ever, only found out when looked at my credit report. This company has failed to follow several California and Federal laws with respect to debt collection. They can provide no verification of the debt (including the address of the original creditor) when asked, yet they say you owe it. Their filing of the collection account on my otherwise pristine credit report has caused a reduction in my line of credit because it affected the credit score. Haven't determined if damages can be sought for that, but damages can clearly be sought for an attempt to collect a "zombie debt" one that is over 4 years old in my case. I suspect there is more than a dozen of these cases and people should write to Fideltiy and ask for verification of debt, dispute the debt with the reporting agencies. If they don't take it off your report, send a complaint with the letter you sent Fidelity, Fidelity's response (including attachments they claim offer proof of you owing a debt) to the FTC and CA Attorney General.
